The International Garden Photographer of the Year 2009

Soula Zavacopoulos, designer and founder of The London Studio, has been shortlisted for the International Garden Photographer of the Year - the World’s premier garden photography competition and exhibition.
Attracting 1.7 million people last year, the prestigious exhibition is held annually at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Soula entered images from her photographic greeting card range: The Botanic Collection - a striking collection of plant portraits that reveal the intricate form and abstract essence
of nature – as well as entering landscape shots and other
garden images.
The winners for this year’s International Garden Photographer of the Year will be announced in May but Soula has already been informed her entry, "Outside In", will be published in the book of the exhibition: 'Garden Photographer of the Year - Collection 02' which will be available in all good bookshops, online (Amazon etc) and at Kew Gardens from May.
"Outside In" (pictured above) challenges our perception of what a garden actually is, exploring our relationship with gardens and what they mean to us.
Says Soula: "I came across this car whilst walking down a residential street in bustling central London. The owner of the car has created their own ‘garden’ in a cramped, busy city - their own personal version of a natural retreat, including grass, flowers, birds and a dog."

"I am interested in exploring what gardens actually are, what they mean
to us in our modern-day lives and what relationship we have with them.
Not everyone has the outdoor space for a garden. However the need to interact with and create them (whatever their form) is clearly still inherently strong. 'Outside In' illustrates this in a playful but poignant way."
